Gap Closes in F4 U.S. Team Standings

While Cape Motorsports extended its points lead by 91 over JDX Racing at the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda mid-season event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, teams in subsequent positions are encroaching on the inaugural team champion’s second-place standing.

After a podium from Justin Sirgany of Kingston, Jamaica, and four top-10 finishes from its other drivers, Global Racing Group shut-out JDX Racing in points two of the three rounds at Mid-Ohio. The Seattle-based team trails JDX by just 13 points heading into Event 5 at Virginia International Raceway. With Sirgany’s third-place closeout in Round 12, GRG is the only multi-car F4 U.S. team to celebrate podium finishes from each driver on its roster this season.

“The Mid-Ohio race weekend was an interesting weekend with ups and downs for the team. I think all teams probably had the same experience,” said GRG Team Principal Christian Pedersen. “When we look at the team’s achievements, we took away some great positives. Crew members and drivers are as determined as ever to advance in both team and driver standings. Our drivers are all pushing hard to get back on the podium at VIR. Can’t wait.”

Indy Motorsports Group also earned valuable points in Mid-Ohio with a podium, two top-five and a top-10 finish from its drivers. The run put IMG within reach of a top-three standing. Kiwi Motorsport, who shot from last place in standings to sixth place after Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, continued its success at Mid-Ohio. After celebrating its first victory and two additional podium finishes, the rookie team bumped up to fifth in standings. Kiwi Motorsport was the only team to have a driver on the podium in each round at Mid-Ohio.

Momentum Motorsports, Jay Howard Motorsports Driver Development, Crosslink Racing, Abel Motorsports, Primus Racing Team and Group-A Racing all added points at the mid-season event.

Team Championship points are calculated from the teams’ top-two drivers’ standings from each individual race. In the case of a tie, the team with the most race wins will be awarded the higher position.

The F4 U.S. Championship teams are back in action for Rounds 13-15 at VIR August 25-27. Fans can view full standings here.
