After a major incident during a practice session at the most recent Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda at Road Atlanta, it was feared that Skip Barber Momentum F4 driver Jake French would be forced to miss the rest of the season. With a car that was damaged to the extent that forced Jake to miss the weekend and with funding not available to repair, Phil Picard and his Momentum Motorsports program have stepped up to the plate to put French in a Skip Barber branded car for the upcoming event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
"Jake is an extremely talented driver and missing a weekend would set back his personal and team development," explained Picard. "We managed to speak to a few people, pull a few strings and will put Jake in the second Skip Barber branded Momentum Motorsports car alongside teammate Kent Vaccaro."
Kicking off a GoFundMe page dubbed 'Get Jake Back On The Track', Jake French and his family are asking for donations to help fund the rest of his 2018 season. Please visit https://www.gofundme.com/get-jake-back-to-the-track for details.
"I am very thankful for the people I have around me," added French. "Momentum Motorsports and Skip Barber have helped kick off my Go Fund Me Campaign by offering me a ride for the next event. Also, without the support from Dallas Karting Complex, Amarillo Sports Medicine and Jana Delon, I would not be where I am today. While we are still working on funding to rebuild our damaged race car from the ground up as well as complete the rest of the season, we are exhausting all of our options to make sure we can continue on throughout the 2018 season."
French continued, "Skip Barber and Momentum have stepped up in a big way by kicking off this GoFundMe campaign by offering me a seat in the Skip Barber car for rounds 7-9 in Mid-Ohio. We humbly accepted and will do whatever we can to assist the team to make it to the top step of the podium. Valuable seat time and race experience will not be lost and for that we are extremely grateful to Skip Barber and Momentum."
Round 7-9 of the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda will take place June 28 to July 1 at the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Please visit www.F4USChampionship.com for more information.
