Competing in the 2020 Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda, Mexican karting champion Gil Molina is set for his single-seater debut under the Jensen Global Advisors team.
Molina, who lives in Monterrey Mexico, has an impressive karting resume, including five-consecutive championships including in the 2019 Rotax DD2 as well as 2017 and 2018 in the Rotax Junior category.
At the recent SCCA National event on the Circuit of the Americas F1 track in Austin, Texas, 15-year-old Molina showed very well in his first ever race competition. Driving the Ligier JS F4 race car, Molina's lap times were fast all weekend with a very impressive drive in the Sunday feature race, passing 19 cars on track to finish 8th overall in the mixed class open-wheel field. The come-from-behind drive scored Molina a third-place podium result in the FX / F4 class.
Molina will continue his pre-season testing and development program with the Texas-based Jensen Global Advisors squad in preparation for his F4 U.S. Championship debut at the Road Atlanta event April 9-11.
"Gil possesses all the traits of a young driver who ultimately becomes a professional race car driver," said team principal Eric Jensen on Molina's development progress. "Gil's speed is impressive as is his race craft, and he is developing at a rate similar to the top professional drivers we have had through the team in the past years."
The 2020 F4 U.S. Championship season is comprised of 17 races over six event weekends, including the season finale together with Formula 1 at the Circuit of the Americas on the weekend October 23-25.
