Edwards to compete with family run program in 2020
Competing in oval quarter midget and midget racing up until two years ago, Will Edwards made the switch to the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda with his family owned and operated Alliance Racing program. Gaining experience with each event, practice, situation and lap in 2018 and 2019, Edwards is ready for his second full season in 2020.
"In 2018, when I started in F4, I had zero kart experience and was off the pace," explained Edwards. "I still have far less experience than others but feel I am making strides forward. Decreasing the gap to the leader with each weekend has been my goal, and I have been doing that. I have set new goals for 2020 and can't wait to get the season started."
With the team owned by his parents Toney and Kimberly, Will plays a vital role in the complete Alliance Racing operation. From assisting in the shop on car maintenance, to helping with team logistics and management, Will not only gets joy from driving, but also helping grow a family business. Gaining a partnership with the popular energy drink company, Gas Monkey Energy, Alliance Racing has quickly progressed from a single car to a full blown six car race team with aspirations to advance to FR Americas in 2020.
"I would love to be able to run up front and win, but I am realistic about with my goals for this season," explained Edwards.
"Will has shown improvement from event to event and year after year and as a parent, that is all I can ask for," explained Toney Edwards. "Will is motivated to not only drive but understand the business side of the race team which is great. Will is younger, more apt to social media and in-tune with younger drivers, so a lot of our driver leads have come from conversations that he has been a part of."
With the start of the 2020 season delayed due to COVID-19, Will Edwards is looking forward to his first green light of the season over the June 5-7 weekend at the Circuit of the Americas.
