October 13, 2022 – Traveling to the VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), Doran-Kroll Competition driver Alex Berg would be back in action at the penultimate round of the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda. After a great qualifying session, the series rookie would run into issues in races one and two before driving through the field from 19th to fifth in race three.
“It was not the best weekend for us in regard to results,” expressed Francois Doran. “Some over-aggressive moves and bad luck resulted in a pair of misfortunes in races one and two, but Alex proved his natural skills and abilities in race three with a dramatic drive.”
Driving the #08 Doran-Kroll Competition entry, Berg earned seventh on the results sheets in the final practice session before scoring a seventh-place result in qualifying. Race one saw Berg get a great start but an overoptimistic attempted pass by a fellow competitor resulted in contact and Berg being taken out of the race. The second race of the weekend saw Alex become a victim of a multi-car pileup due to no fault of his own.
Starting 19th and in the final row of the grid for the third wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend, Berg had a spirited drive forward gaining 14 positions to finish fifth. Along with showing speed all weekend, Alex also earned the Omologato Award for the perfectly timed move of the race in race three on Sunday.
Berg added, “Not the weekend we wanted for sure, but we finished strong and have some momentum heading to the final event of the 2022 season in Texas.”
Despite a weekend that was not favorable in the point championship, Berg’s strong finishes from earlier in the season and his consistent results in the first 12 wheel-to-wheel races see him sixth in the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda championship battle with a chance to move forward during the final event weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in early November.
