Mid-Ohio SpeedTour

Back at Mid-Ohio

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course remains one of the most frequented tracks for both Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) and Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.). F4 U.S. has visited the Ohio road course more than any other circuit, visiting twice during its inaugural 2016 season and coming back every year since. FR Americas only missed the trip to Mid-Ohio once since the series’ inception, making this year’s visit its sixth to the 2.258-mile track. In its inaugural season, this year’s SpeedTour event will mark the first trip to Mid-Ohio for Ligier JS F4 Series (JS F4).

Meet the Drivers

Fans will have the opportunity to meet the drivers of FR Americas, F4 U.S. and JS F4 during an autograph session on Saturday afternoon. The event is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. in the FR Americas/F4 U.S./JS F4 paddock, near the series trailer.

Stream This Weekend’s Races

Saturday and Sunday’s races from the Mid-Ohio SpeedTour will be streamed free on YouTube! Enjoy live coverage of the feature races for FR Americas, F4 U.S. and JS F4 at YouTube.com/SpeedTourTV.

FR Americas Championship

Back-To-Back Weekends

FR Americas is entering week two of back-to-back events at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and Mid-Ohio. The championship battle continues to heat up, as Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) took control of the standings after scoring three podiums, including a win in Round 8, during last weekend’s event at IMS. Entering the Indy SpeedTour tied with Shehan and winning both Rounds 7 and 9, Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) missed the podium in Round 8 and fell to six and a half points behind Shehan.

Bowling Records Career-Best Weekend at IMS

Jett Bowling (No. 02 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) had a career-best weekend at the Racing Capital of the World last week. The 19-year-old driver earned the best finishes of his career—a second-place result in Round 8, followed by a third-place result in Round 9. Bowling joined F4 U.S. last June at Mid-Ohio, and spent the winter competing in New Zealand’s Formula Regional Oceania Championship, before stepping up to FR Americas for the 2024 season.

Woods-Toth Continues Winning Ways

Adding two more victories to his tally, Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) has stood atop the podium more than any other FR Americas driver this season. The 20-year-old Canadian is also the only driver to win at each of the three venues where FR Americas has competed this year. He scored his first win of the season in Round 2 at NOLA Motorsports Park, before returning to the Winners Circle in Round 4 at Road America. At Indianapolis, he took the checkered flag in both Rounds 7 and 9.

SAVE22 Joins IGY6 Motorsports for Race-Day Experience at Mid-Ohio

Hayden Bowlsbey (No. 22 IGY6 Motorsports / SAVE22 Ligier JS F3) and the IGY6 Motorsports team will welcome a group of military veterans and caregivers from SAVE22 for a special race-day experience at the Mid-Ohio SpeedTour. The Ohio-based group will spend time with the IGY6 Motorsports team, join the SpeedTour staff for lunch, and assist with both pre-race ceremonies and podium celebrations throughout the day.

SAVE22 is a 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to combating suicide among veterans, active-duty service members and first responders. Led by an all-volunteer team, the organization looks to S.A.V.E. – shield, assist, volunteer and educate. For more information on SAVE22, visit SAVE22.vet.

F4 U.S. Championship

Ligier JS F422 Proves Impressive at Road America

The Ligier JS F422 had an impressive debut weekend at Road America last month. Celebrating its competition premiere, the chassis proved its reliability and consistency, with 100% of the chassis taking each checkered flag and completing every lap of each race. Even more impressively, the chassis proved to be five seconds per lap quicker than the previous generation JS F4 car, which was utilized in JS F4 at Road America. With exciting side-by-side racing, the car proved to be extremely competitive, as each of the races were highly contested, with three different drivers winning from three different teams.

Fast Cars, Close Racing Headline Season Opener

With a new chassis, new teams and new drivers filling the F4 U.S. grid this season, one thing became apparent during the Road America SpeedTour weekend—2024 is going to be exciting. With three different winners from three different teams, the battle for the 2024 championship is wide open. Current points leader, Nicolas Stati (No. 15 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422), took the victory in Round 1 and went on to stand on the podium during each of the weekend’s three races. While Connor Roberts (No. 46 ApexSpeed.com / Entropy Cellars Ligier JS F422) is still looking for his first win, he had a trifecta of podium performances, including a best finish of second in Rounds 2 and 3. Daniel Quimby (No. 24 Cruise America / MIR Raceline / FIJI Airways / GalvanizeIns Ligier JS F422) finished second in Round 1 before winning Round 2, but in Round 3, it was Pablo Benites Jr. (No. 44 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F422) who snuck onto the podium as the race winner. With the series already seeing one race decided by just 0.205-seconds, it is obvious that 2024 is anyone’s championship to win. A scholarship remains on the line that will allow the 2024 F4 U.S. champion to move up to FR Americas in 2025 with full support from Ligier Automotive, Hankook Motorsports and Parella Motorsports Holdings.

Woods-Toth Presented with FIA Award at Road America

As an FIA-certified series, the champions of both FR Americas and F4 U.S. are invited to the annual FIA Prize Giving Ceremony to be honored among all the FIA champions from around the world—including all the various F4 champions, all the way up to Formula 1. With the 2023 ceremony held in Baku, Azerbaijan, 2023 F4 U.S. Champion Patrick Woods-Toth was unable to attend the event in person. Instead, Race Director Scott Goodyear presented Woods-Toth with his FIA trophy in front of his peers while at Road America last month.

An Equal Battle Among Teams in F4 U.S.

With three different organizations winning at Road America, it appears that no one team holds an advantage over the others. Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport was the first to Victory Lane with their driver Nicolas Stati (No. 15 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422), then Atlantic Racing won with Daniel Quimby (No. 24 Cruise America / MIR Raceline / FIJI Airways / GalvanizeIns Ligier JS F422). In the final race of the weekend, Scuderia Buell visited the Winner’s Circle with Pablo Benites Jr. (No. 44 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F422). While Team Roberts Racing didn’t take the top step of the podium, their driver Connor Roberts (No. 46 ApexSpeed.com / Entropy Cellars Ligier JS F422) currently sits second in the standings after recording three podiums. With three drivers under their tent, Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport currently leads the Team Championship point standings.

Ligier JS F4 Series

Championship Battle Takes Form

With a full scholarship to compete in the 2025 season of F4 U.S. on the line, the championship battle is starting to shape up in JS F4. Three drivers have each tallied two wins apiece, with Teddy Musella (No. 25 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) winning Rounds 1 and 3, while Kekai Hauanio (No. 29 N.E.Where Transportation / New’T Racing Ligier JS F4) was victorious in Rounds 2 and 5. Bacon Zelenka (No. 45 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) visited the Winners Circle twice at Road America, taking the win in Rounds 4 and 6. Maite Cáceres (No. 6 Abitab / Supermatch Ligier JS F4) also remains in the hunt for the title, just 19 points behind the points leader in fourth. Tied for the fifth position are Christopher Parrish (No. 83 Save22 Ligier JS F4) and Brad Majman (No. 95 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4)—both drivers recorded a career-best result with runner-up finishes at the Road America SpeedTour.

Cáceres Looking to Break Through for a Win

Earlier this season, Maite Cáceres (No. 6 Abitab / Supermatch Ligier JS F4) became just the second female to podium in any of the series on Parella Motorsports Holdings’ (PMH) Open Wheel Ladder. The Uruguayan competed in F4 U.S. during the 2022 season before moving to F1 Academy last year. She returned to JS F4 this season to gain more seat time and experience, and has yet to finish outside the top five. With two third-place finishes and a runner-up result, she’s still searching for her first win.

Close Racing Leads to Career-Best Finishes

The Road America SpeedTour produced some of the closest finishes in series history for JS F4. Round 7 was decided by only 0.018 seconds, while Round 8 had the largest margin of victory at just 1.005 seconds. Multiple leaders in each round and near constant jockeying for position led to several drivers achieving their career-best finishes throughout the weekend. Bacon Zelenka (No. 45 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) earned his first-career wins, while Brad Majman (No. 95 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) achieved his first-career podium with a runner-up finish. Jake Pollack (No. 1 JENSEN Ligier JS F4) also achieved his first-career podium with a third-place finish. Harbir Dass (No. 49 Berg DMG Racing Ligier JS F4) finished a career-best fifth, while Demitri Nolan (No. 5 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) notched a sixth-place finish for his career-best result.

Round 4 Results Adjusted

Following last month’s Road America SpeedTour, it came to the attention of the Stewards that Drew Szuch (No. 28 Szuch Racing Ligier JS F4) lost his transponder during Round 4, and was not credited by the timing and scoring system as having completed all the laps of the race. After video review and consultation with the Race Director and Chief of Timing and Scoring, the Stewards directed that the results be amended and Szuch be credited with a ninth-place finish. With the adjustment, Szuch earns two additional points in the season-long point standings—something that could prove to be very valuable as the series approaches the season finale at Circuit of The Americas.

Home Race for Series Newcomers, Felber Twins

Natives of Akron, Ohio, Cash Felber (No. 1 FLBR Motorsport/Fly Alliance/BYOB/PMC Ligier JS F4) and Roman Felber (No. 2 FLBR Motorsport/Fly Alliance/BYOB/PMC Ligier JS F4) are officially set to make their JS F4 debut this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The teenage phenoms have been engaged in an extensive testing program with JENSEN since January 2023, and competed in their first races with Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) at Circuit of The Americas last November. With both twins focused on a career in Formula 1, they have spent the early portion of 2024 in karting and Formula FARA while continue to prepare for their JS F4 debut.

Series Debut for Rafal Wolosz

Rafal Wolosz (No. 27 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) will make his JS F4 debut for Scuderia Buell at Mid-Ohio. The 17-year-old Polish driver competed in SVRA at NOLA Motorsports Park earlier this season, after a successful weekend resulting in two podium finishes at that event, he will officially graduate to JS F4 this weekend.
